NW Suburban Hospital Loses Power For Two Hours

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. (STMW) -- Seven patients were transferred from a northwest suburban hospital Friday morning after a wing of the hospital lost power for two hours.

The Alexian Brothers Women & Children's Hospital, part of St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, lost power at 2:44 a.m. Friday, according to hospital spokesman Matt Wakely.

Seven patients were successfully transferred to other hospitals while ComEd worked to restore service, Wakely said. Four were taken to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village while the other three were taken to two other area hospitals.

Power was restored by 4:44 a.m., Wakely said, but the cause of the outage was not immediately known. ComEd crews were still at the hospital investigating the outage as of 5:20 a.m.
