Bomb Threat Closes Several Northwest Indiana Schools; Juvenile In Custody

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police in Schererville have one person in custody in connection to bomb threats that prompted the closure of at least nine schools in northwest Indiana, threats police said appear to have been false.
Students at Homan Elementary School in Schererville, and at Kolling Elementary School and Clark Middle School in St. John were being told to stay home Tuesday were being told to stay home while police sweep the campuses.
Dr. Larry Veracco, superintendent of Lake Central School Corporation, said police in Schererville and St. John received threatening phone calls specifically targeting Homan Elementary School in Schererville and Kolling Elementary School and Clark Middle School in St. John.
"The caller specifically stated that bombs would result in injuries to many people in these buildings," he said in a voice mail to parents.
Classes also were canceled as a precaution at St. Michael School and three Hammond Baptist Schools in Schererville, and at Crown Point Christian School and St. John the Evangelist School in St. John.
Tuesday afternoon, Schererville police announced a juvenile was in custody in connection to the threats, which appear to be false.
