Northern Illinois Beats Mississippi Valley State 71-64

DEKALB, Ill. (AP) — Anthony Johnson scored 14 points and Northern Illinois beat Mississippi Valley State 71-64 on Tuesday.

Jordan Threloff had 10 points and seven rebounds while Aaric Armstead added 10 points and six boards as Northern Illinois (4-3) shot 49 percent from the floor and outrebounded MVSU (1-9) 44-24.

Jordan Washington paced Mississippi Valley State with 21 points — including three 3-pointers — and DeAngelo Priar added 17 points.

The game was tied at 26 with 3:32 left in the first, but Aaron Armstead drilled a 3-pointer and NIU made 5 of 6 from the line to lead 36-33 at the break.

Midway through the second half, a 7-0 run over 4:12 pushed the Huskies advantage to 50-39. Another 8-0 spurt made it 58-40 and MVSU never really threatened after that.
