No School Tuesday For Waukegan Students As Teacher Strike Continues
UPDATE 4:37 p.m. 10/20/14
(CBS) -- There is no school again Tuesday for public school students in Waukegan as a teachers strike will enter its 12th day, reports WBBM's Nancy Harty reports.
Talks between the school district and the teachers union will resume at 9 a.m. Tuesday. The two sides appeared to have been making progress at one point but haven't met since Wednesday. A District 60 spokesman accuses the union of walking away last week while he says the board is ready and willing to continue negotiations.
Union President Kathy Schwartz said in a statement, "The teachers are giving the District administration time to meet with the Board of Education to write a serious proposal that takes in account the past sacrifices made by teachers that led to a $37 million surplus. We are spending the weekend on a listening tour of the community, discussing the status of negotiations and asking for input."
