No Bull: Rodeo Critter Bolts Through Far South Suburb

(CBS) -- The roundup was not in Montana or Wyoming, but right here in Illinois and not that far from Chicago.

The little town of Beecher is very much in the Far South --  not the Wild West – 'burbs.

On Sunday, residents couldn't believe their eyes: Cowboys on horseback, trying to corral a runaway bull.

Cynthia Macedo saw it all.

"All of a sudden I see two riders chasing something. It wasn't a big bull, just a little bull, but it had little horns," she tells CBS 2's Derrick Blakley.

Authorities believe the baby bull somehow escaped from a weekend rodeo in town and then wandered more than a mile, galloping or maybe grazing to the Cardinal Creek Golf Course.

The cowboys finally corralled the baby bull, in the ball fields behind Beecher Junior High.

The school is the home of the bobcats, not home of the bulls.

At least the incident gave Beecher's residents a few minutes of Old West thrills.

"It was a little intimidating, but we were excited," Macedo says.
