No Break In Murder Case Of Chicago Woman Slain In Belize

(CBS) – The body of Chicago journalist Anne Swaney is expected to be flown back to the U.S. on Tuesday.

The 39-year-old online producer at Chicago's ABC 7 was murdered while vacationing in the Central American nation of Belize last week. Officials say Swaney died of strangulation and blunt force trauma to the head and neck. Her body was found floating in a river.

A person of interest had been taken into custody, but no criminal charges were filed Monday against that person, a Guatemalan national who now is being jailed on immigration-related charges, according to local police spokesman Raphael Martinez.

"The case is still open and the investigation continues," he tells CBS 2's Roseanne Tellez.

Swaney's funeral is set for Saturday in her hometown of Platte City, Mo. For more information, click here to read her online obituary.

Some of her Northwestern University classmates are planning a memorial.
