Police: Suicidal Woman Shot By Police After She Fired At Officers In Schaumburg
(CBS) -- A Schaumburg woman is in custody after allegedly shooting at police Saturday night, reports WBBM's Mariam Sobh.
The roommate of the 31-year-old woman texted police to alert them that she was walking around the condo with a pistol and making suicidal statements.
"The police officers began to enter, say that the woman had a handgun so they took up positions of cover, tried to convince her to put the weapon down and come on out," said Lieutenant Shawn Green of the Schaumburg Police Department.
Green says the woman barricaded herself inside and eventually came out into and shot at police. That is when they fired back and struck her twice.
The woman is currently under police guard at the hospital where she is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The Cook County state's attorney's office is investigating the incident.
