Newborn Girl Found In Chicago Heights Field

CHICAGO (CBS) -- An hours-old baby girl was found alone in a field Tuesday morning in south suburban Chicago Heights.

Officers received a call at 10:56 a.m. from someone who had found the infant alone, lying in the grass in an open field, according to a statement from Chicago Heights police. When officers responded, the newborn black girl was about 100 feet west of 19460 Chicago Heights-Glenwood Road.

The girl, who was responsive at the time, was taken to St. James Health in Chicago Heights, where her condition was stabilized, police said.

Medical staff said the infant was born about two or three hours before she was found, police said.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the newborn's mother or any other family member is asked to contact the Chicago Heights Police Department Detective Division at (708) 756-6422. The mother may be in need of medical care or other support services.
