Near West Side Fire Leaves One Critically Injured

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man was critically injured after jumping out of a window during a fire Monday morning on the Near West Side.

A still-and-box alarm was called about 8 a.m. for the blaze at the Royalton Hotel, a four-story, single occupancy hotel at 1810 W. Jackson Blvd., Fire Media Affairs spokesman Juan Hernandez said.

The man, whose age was not immediately known, jumped out of a window during the fire and was taken in critical condition to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, Hernandez said. It was not immediately known from which floor he jumped.

No other injuries were reported and the blaze was extinguished about 8:15 a.m., Hernandez said.

The Chicago Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire.
