By John Dodge

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The iconic Ferris wheel at Navy Pier will be closed for a few weeks while it gets a makeover.

The wheel is getting a fresh coat of paint and a cleaning, according to Navy Pier spokesman Nick Shields.

The 40 red gondolas are being sent to FiberGlass Chicago, in Steward, Ill., where the interiors will be refurbished.

The cabins will also get painted, and some of the Fiberglass windows will be replaced..

The gondolas will also get new speakers.

This is the first rehab for the 150-foot wheel since it opened in 1995

Shields expects that the attraction will be open again in mid-April.

The Ferris wheel operates year-round, weather permitting, and has been ridden more than 10 million times.
