Naperville Mom Wants Airline Safeguards Against Peanut Allergies
(CBS) -- A Naperville woman whose daughter has life-threatening nut allergies is off the ground on her mission to reform airline food policies.
"We got off that plane as soon as we could. I'm scared to death to fly."
That's one mother's story of her son's near-death experience when he had an allergic reaction because someone seated near him on a plane was snacking on peanuts.
It's in a new video, "More Than An Inconvenience," produced by Amy Wicker, a former WBBM employee who now spends her time lobbying for changes in the airline industry.
Wicker has a 9-year-old daughter with severe nut allergies.
Wicker was in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday to show the film to executives from 15 airlines. She doesn't expect them to ban peanuts, but just to make it safer for those with allergies to travel.
"If we know going in that the flight attendants are going to work with us, they're going to help create a buffer zone, and they're going to make an announcement for us, that's really huge and that's what we're asking for," Wicker said.
