Woman killed, four people hospitalized after serious crash in Chicago suburb

CHICAGO (CBS) — A woman was killed, and four people were sent to local hospitals after a serious crash in suburban Elk Grove Village Tuesday night.

An adult and three juveniles in a Lexus sedan ran a red light while driving north on Meacham and hit a Honda SUV traveling east on Biesterfield Road around 11:20 p.m. on Tuesday, police said.

A 44-year-old woman driving a Honda SUV died in the crash on her way home from work, family members said. The four people in the Lexus were treated at the hospital and later released, police said.

The woman who was killed was the mother of five children.

Friends at the scene said some of the others injured were teenagers.

"They were a couple of my friends," said Krystian Niziolek. "Just praying for their safety. I heard about this, so I just had to come out.

"Luckily, some of them are OK, and they've been texting us. They are currently in the hospital, but I'm just hoping everyone is OK."

The video showed a black Lexus sedan with significant damage to the driver's side. The front of the car was torn off in the impact, and debris was strewn along the road.

The passenger side and the rear of the second car, the black Honda SUV, were also badly damaged.
