More lane closures to disrupt North DuSable Lake Shore Drive next week

CBS News Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS) -- More road work will disrupt traffic on North DuSable Lake Shore Drive next week, beginning Sunday.

The Chicago Department of Transportation on Friday announced the roadwork schedule for next week—though it may change depending on the weather. Rain is in the forecast on Sunday and Monday.

On Sunday beginning at 6 p.m., all southbound lanes on the Drive will be closed between Fullerton and LaSalle drives—including entrance and exit ramps. Southbound traffic will need to get off at Fullerton Drive and take Stockton Drive past the Lincoln Park Conservatory and Zoo to LaSalle Drive.

On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday beginning at 7 p.m., traffic on the southbound Drive will be reduced to one lane between Irving Park Road and LaSalle Drive. At 9 p.m. each of those nights, the southbound Drive will close altogether along this stretch—a full three miles—including all entrance and exit ramps.

Traffic will be routed down Inner Lake Shore Drive from Irving Park Road to Belmont Avenue, Sheridan Road from Belmont Avenue to Diversey Parkway, Cannon Drive from Diversey Parkway to Fullerton Drive, and Stockton Drive from Fullerton Drive to LaSalle Drive. Stockton and Cannon drives have only one lane of traffic in each direction.

All affected lanes of DuSable Lake Shore Drive will reopen at 6 a.m. the following morning each day.

Resurfacing work on the Drive is expected to be completed by late October.
