More Chicago Catholic Schools Set To Close
CHICAGO (CBS) -- WBBM Newsradio has learned the Roman Catholic Archdiocese in Chicago is about to start notifying some schools that they're going to be closing.
Sister Mary Paul McCaughey, the superintendent of the Chicago catholic schools, said it is an unfortunate truth that some schools are going to be closing.
At this point, McCaughey is not saying how many schools are closing, WBBM's Mike Krauser reports.
She said she will be notifying each of them personally.
"It is an infinite sadness," McCaughey said, adding she will walk them through a "process of grieving."
The problem, she said, is simply the continued inability to fund schools that parishes are unable to support.
Some of the Catholic schools have faced declining enrollment, but sister McCaughey said the main the problem is funding.
DNA Info reported that a total of five schools will be closing, including Our Lady of Victory School, 4434 N. Laramie Ave.
The Daily Herald reported that Santa Maria del Popolo School in Mundelein will also close at the end of the school year.
