Kayaker dies after falling into lake in Illinois suburb

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A kayaker died after falling out of his boat early Sunday in far northwest suburban Oakwood Hills.

Police said two men, ages 19 and 20, were kayaking on Silver Lake in Oakwood Hills in the early morning hours of Sunday when the older man heard the younger man fall in the water. The older man also fell into the water as he turned around his kayak.

The older man made it to shore safely, but the younger man did not.

Cary Fire Protection District divers recovered the younger man's body. According to the McHenry County Coroner's Office, he has been identified as Thane Kilbourn of Glendale, Wisconsin.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday.

Oakwood Hills police and the McHenry County Sheriff's office were investigating.
