Mild Temperatures To Start The Week, Storms Possible Tuesday
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A warm trend was continuing in Chicago on Monday, and thunderstorms are possible on Tuesday before we see a turn to colder weather mid-week.
The high was expected to reach the low 40s on Monday, or about 10 degrees warmer than normal for the start of February, according to the National Weather Service.
The warm temperatures will continue on Tuesday, and it will rain for a good chunk of the day, with thunderstorms possible in the afternoon and evening.
A mix of rain and snow is possible in the far northern suburbs early Tuesday, but that wintry mix should change to rain by 6 a.m. Areas along the Wisconsin state line could get 1-3 inches of snow before it switches to rain.
The forecast isn't quite as rosy across a large stretch of the country from Utah and Colorado to Wisconsin, where a foot or more of snow was expected Monday and Tuesday. The Rockies in Utah and Colorado could get several feet of snow. Parts of Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, Wisconsin, and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan could get up to a foot of snow through Tuesday.
Colder temperatures were expected to come into play in Chicago on Wednesday, when the high will be only around 33, and snow showers are possible. That colder trend will continue through the end of the week, with highs ranging from the upper 20s to the mid 30s from Wednesday through the weekend.
