Michigan Man To Visit Mosques In 50 States
(CBS) -- After stops near Indianapolis and in west suburban Villa Park, a Michigan marketing executive is moving on in his quest to visit mosques in all 50 states.
Jameel Syed began his quest Friday morning at his home mosque, in the Detroit suburb of Rochester Hills.
He arrived Friday evening at the Islamic Foundation mosque in Villa Park.
Part of what drives Syed is spiritual, he says, because he intends to make the call to prayer at each of his stops. But he says part of it is a "good old American road trip," and part is the chance to do something no one else has done.
Syed intends to shoot videos of local Muslim communities at each of his stops that he will post on the Internet. He says his goal is to show everyone that Muslim Americans are not jihadists, whom he said have "hijacked our religion."
He hopes to visit all 50 states in 35 days. In some cases, he will do several states in one day. In others, he will spend a day or more. He says he expects to spend several days in Hawaii.
Syed is the founder and CEO of the Fluidvisions marketing firm.
