Man Climbs On Top Of Metra Train, Delays UP North Line
Updated 02/24/14 - 9:13 a.m.
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Trains on Metra's UP North Line were stopped near Rogers Park for about half an hour Monday morning, after a man jumped on top of a train, and started running along the roof of the bi-level cars.
Police and Metra officials said the main climbed on top of an inbound Union Pacific-North Line train around 7:45 a.m. while it was stopped near the Rogers Park station at 7000 N. Ravenswood Av. He then jumped onto an outbound train on the next set of tracks.
Trains in both directions were stopped while Metra crews, police officers, and firefighters tried to get him to come down.
Some Metra riders were able to take pictures of the man on top of a train as they waited at the Rogers Park station.
Some people tweeted that they could hear the man running along the roof of the train, and jumping from car to car. Others said they could see his shadow on buildings next to the train.
The man apparently was taken into custody around 8:15 a.m., and trains began moving again, although inbound and outbound trains were delayed about 15 to 30 minutes.
It was not immediately clear how or why the man got on top of the train.
Police said the man was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center for observation, and it was unlikely he would face criminal charges.
