Metra Union Pacific West Trains Moving Again, After Freight Train Kills Person Near Lombard
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Metra trains are moving again on the Union Pacific-West Line, after service was halted during the morning rush, when a freight train on the same tracks hit a pedestrian near Lombard.
A Metra spokesperson confirmed a person was killed by a freight train between Glen Ellyn and Lombard around 6 a.m.
Inbound and outbound service on the UP West Line was halted west of Lombard, and outbound trains were stopping at Villa Park, then turning around to return to Chicago.
Around 9 a.m., Metra said one track had reopened, and inbound and outbound trains would begin moving again, starting with inbound trains. Extensive delays were expected to continue through the morning.
Metra riders were advised to use BNSF trains as an alternative.
