Pedestrian Struck, Killed By Metra Train Near Lisle

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A pedestrian was fatally struck by a Metra train early Wednesday in west suburban Lisle, causing delays on the BNSF Railway line during the morning commute.

The person was hit by a Metra equipment train about 5:25 a.m. near Burlington Avenue in Lisle, Metra spokesman Tom Miller said.

The pedestrian was killed, according to a statement from the DuPage County coroner's office. As of 8:30 a.m., all agencies involved are still at the scene and the investigation is ongoing.

Both inbound and outbound BNSF trains are operating 10-25 minutes behind schedule during the morning commute, according to Metra's website.

Passengers are encouraged to listen to platform announcements for the location and delay times of trains, and refer to Rail-Time Tracker located at metrarail.com for current delay information.
