Metra Train Kills Pedestrian Near Cary; Extensive Delays For Union Pacific Northwest Line

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Metra train struck and killed a person Tuesday morning near the station in north suburban Cary, causing extensive delays during the morning rush on the Union Pacific Northwest line.

An outbound UP-Northwest train struck and killed a pedestrian shortly after 7 a.m. in Cary, a Metra spokesperson confirmed.

Inbound and outbound UP-Northwest trains were halted north of Barrington as a result.

One track reopened by about 9 a.m., but extensive delays were expected to continue through the morning.
