Metra train hits, kills pedestrian in Downers Grove
DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. (CBS) -- The BNSF Metra line was shut down in the middle of the Thursday evening rush after a person was hit and killed by a train in Downers Grove.
Downers Grove police said at 5:50 p.m., they were called to the BNSF Line tracks at Main Street for a that someone had been hit by a train.
Police learned that the man was seen walking on the tracks between Main and Washington streets when a westbound Metra train hit him. He died at the scene.
BNSF Line train No. 1267 was halted near the Fairview station after the train hit the man, and the whole line was shut down for much of the evening rush.
Just before 7 p.m., a track was reopened so trains could move. But extensive delays persisted afterward.
