Car hit by Metra train in north Chicago suburbs

GLENCOE, Ill. (CBS) -- A Metra train hit a car Friday night in north suburban Glencoe, snagging train traffic on the Union Pacific North line.

Glencoe Public Safety was called to the scene at Green Bay and Maple Hill roads at 10:19 p.m.

A Volkswagen Jetta had been struck by a northbound Union Pacific North Metra train, Glencoe Public Safety said.

Police said the Jetta had turned southbound on the railroad tracks and had gotten stuck. The occupants of the Jetta were not in the car when it was struck.

CBS 2's crews saw police inspecting the side of the car that was hit by the train. The side of the car was smashed in.  

No injuries were reported. Metra police are investigating.

Inbound and outbound trains were back on the move Saturday morning.
