Metra Train Fatally Strikes Pedestrian In Lisle

(STMW) -- Riders on Metra's BNSF line experienced long delays during the Monday evening rush after a train fatally struck a pedestrian in west suburban Lisle.

Inbound train No. 1272 struck a pedestrian just east of the Lisle station just after 4 p.m., Metra spokeswoman Meg Reile said. Officials said the pedestrian had died.

Trains were initially halted both directions, Metra said. As of 5 p.m., trains are able to use one track to get by, but at a reduced speed.

Riders on the BNSF were told to expect "extensive delays" Monday evening, the rail agency said.
