Normal Service Resuming For South Shore Line, Metra Electric District

CHICAGO (CBS) -- South Shore Line and Metra District trains were moving again Tuesday morning, after a power failure near Millennium Station downtown caused delays during the morning rush.

The power failure happened around 8:20 a.m. between the Van Buren and Museum Campus stations.

Eight Metra Electric District and two South Shore Line trains were halted due to the outage.

The problem was fixed and trains began running again around 9:05 a.m. However, delays likely will continue for a few hours, as trains operate at reduced speeds.

The cause of the outage was under investigation, but a Metra spokeswoman said a broken piece of equipment at a signal station was the likely cause.
