Memorial Day Weekend Event Round Up

It's finally Memorial Day weekend and that means patio and BBQ season! Here is a list of a few events around town to help you kick off summer in the city.

Navy Pier

Landshark Beer Garden -- After a day at the Pier, grab a brew and listen to some local live music from Friday to Monday. The LandShark Beer Garden is located on the East End of Navy Pier.

Riva Crab House Cafe -- Riva Café features their famous seafood menu, gourmet sandwiches, soups, and salads. The café's outdoor seating area provides an awesome view of Lake Michigan and the excitement of Navy Pier.

Located on North Avenue Beach, Castaways will open to the public this Memorial Day weekend with live entertainment Saturday through Monday and will serve lunch and dinner from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. (weather permitting). Menu items include fresh salads, wraps, sandwiches, and quesadillas accompanied by frozen cocktails and even Corona in a can. You'll also find a daily line-up of music and DJs all weekend long.

The Wicker Park Irish sports bar opens at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 26 (regularly open at 4 p.m.) and offers all-day deals including $4 select drafts, including the May beer of the month, New Belgium Summer Helles.

Holiday food specials include $5 Certified Angus Beef burgers, $5 housemade beer brats, $7 signature Certified Angus Beef burgers and $7 house-smoked pulled pork, brisket or pulled chicken sandwiches (all with choice of side). On May 24th and 25th specials include $12 Bud Light Pitchers, $20 craft beer buckets, brunch and more.

Chicagoans who visit Frontier this Memorial Day will enjoy a patio BBQ for $15 per person. The BBQ will begin at 3 p.m. and feature pulled pork, bbq chicken, burgers, potato salad, baked beans and more. Drink specials will include $4 domestics and $5 punches, available all day. The beer garden at Frontier features a retractable roof and the event will be held rain or shine.

For a daytime putting, check out Kanela's in Lakeview or Old Town. Their brunch menu includes Stuffed Raspberry Cheesecake French Toast, Chilaquiles, Hummus Wrap, Smoked Salmon Wrap and a Spicy Black Bean Pesto Wrap. Kanela also has several seasonal cocktails including Strawberry Basil Lemonade, Pineapple Mojito Sangria and an Iced Rumchata Chai (it's delicious).

Lottie's Pub in Bucktown will host its 4th Annual Memorial Weekend Pig Roast on Sunday, May 25 beginning at 2 p.m. For $12 per person, you can enjoy an all-you-can-eat pig roast, complete with baked beans, potato salad and coleslaw. Wash it down with $15 Miller and Coors buckets, $4 craft pints and $4 vodka lemonades.

If you're feeling a little shopping, the Randolph Street Market in the West Loop will kick off their indoor/outdoor season opener. This year's market will feature a free flower photo booth, themed dance parties, special guests, live music all weekend long, fun for the kids and of course aisles of vintage and handmade items for your shopping pleasure. Free parking is available. Reduced tickets are available online and general admission is available at the door. There are also a couple fun packages for groups and early buying.
