Member Of Jesse White Tumblers, 16, Fatally Shot

(CBS) – A member of the Jesse White Tumblers was fatally shot this week in Old Town, and now the namesake founder of the group is looking for answers.

CBS 2's Pamela Jones reports.

Friday night, Angel Lofton returned to where her 16-year-old son Devonshay Lofton was shot and killed Thursday night.

It happened in the 1300 block of North Cleveland Avenue. Two men riding bikes opened fire as Lofton was standing on the sidewalk.

His mom says he was returning to their apartment just a block or two away after walking his girlfriend home.

"He had folded his clothes up and laid them out on his bed had his shirt and stuff ready for school," the mother said.

Her son had been performing with the Jesse White Tumblers for six years.

His love of high-flying flips began at age 4.

Team members soared with heavy hearts during a Friday performance.

"We had a lot of gentlemen with their heads hanging low," said White, the Illinois secretary of state.

As Lofton's neighborhood gathered to pray during a vigil, tears and frustration flowed.

"It's just sickening. The whole city needs to come together to find a way to get these kids to stop killing," Damasi Levison said.

She says her son was shot last year in the same area.

Police have no suspects.
