McCormick Architect Helmut Jahn Pans Lucas Museum Plan
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Helmut Jahn, an architect on the original McCormick Place East building, not surprisingly doesn't think much of the idea of tearing it down to make way for the George Lucas Museum.
Jahn thinks there's a way to re-purpose the original structure he built on the lakefront.
Only some parts are used now.
But, even with George Lucas and his wife Mellody Hobson putting up almost $750 million for a museum of narrative art, he's not sure the project is worth it.
Jahn thinks the proposed project would be too expensive and won't happen.
He has an idea for using his building to frame a museum, but he doesn't think Lucas would go for it.
He says "when someone spends so much money to set themselves a memorial, they want all or nothing."
Jahn, 76, was here at City Hall winning a recommendation from the Plan Commission for a Michigan Avenue residential tower.
