McCarthy: South Shore Laundromat Shooting Appears To Be Gang Related
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy said the motive in a South Shore shooting that left six people wounded, including two teens, appears to be gang violence.
The gunman approached the business on foot and opened fire and was caught on surveillance video according to McCarthy.
"We do have a good description and we do have video that we are reviewing right now because there are a number of stores at that location who had video of the event," said McCarthy.
But he says nothing stands out about the description. Those who were shot, including 14- and 16-year-old boys were hit in the arms and legs and none of the injuries were life-threatening.
"The preliminary indication is that this looks like some sort of gang violence, whether or it is retaliation or not we are not positive at this point," said McCarthy.
McCarthy said there were gang members among the injured. He said there are a number of gang conflicts in the area but in the end it might have been a fight over a girl.
