Martial Arts Studio Destroyed By Fire In Lombard
LOMBARD, Ill. (CBS) -- A fire caused up to $300,000 in damage to a strip mall building in west suburban Lombard early Monday.
WBBM Newsradio's Veronica Carter reports the fire broke out just after 3 a.m. at a building housing a martial arts studio and a doctor's office in the 200 block of East Roosevelt Road.
Lombard Fire Department Battalion Chief Art Peters said when firefighters arrived, smoke was pouring out the back of the building.
"Once they got inside, they had flames coming out of one of the offices, and it had already worked the ceiling pretty well, so they had smoke all the way down to the floor," Peters said.
A number of other suburban fire departments were called in to keep the fire from spreading to neighboring businesses.
The fire started inside the martial arts studio, which was completely destroyed in the blaze. The doctor's office next door sustained some smoke damage, and should be able to reopen soon.
"The other tenant just has to get some building issues taken care of, and then he'll probably be up and running in a little bit," Peters said.
Part of Roosevelt Road was shut down while crews battled the blaze. No one was injured.
