Married couple identified in apparent murder-suicide at suburban Chicago home

DuPage County State's Attorney pledges to fix system after suburban murder-suicide

VERNON HILLS, Ill. (CBS) — A married couple was found dead inside a home in Vernon Hills Wednesday morning.

Vernon Hills police said just before 9:30 a.m., officers responded to a single-family home in the 400 block of Cherry Valley Road for a report of two people dead inside the residence.

Officers located a man and woman dead with apparent gunshot wounds. The victims were later identified as 67-year-old Victoria Ceja and 77-year-old Ramiro Ceja, both of Vernon Hills, by the Lake County Coroner's Office.

Police believed the victims were the residents of the address.

Preliminary autopsy results indicated that Mrs. Ceja died from multiple gunshot wounds, and Mr. Ceja died from a gunshot wound, the office said.

A weapon was recovered, and an initial examination of the home showed no signs of forced entry, suggesting the incident was the result of a murder-suicide, according to police.

There was no threat to the public.

The Vernon Hills Police Department and the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force are continuing to investigate the incident.
