Man, Woman Seriously Hurt In Englewood Shooting

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two people were seriously wounded in a shooting early Sunday in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side.

The two were sitting on a porch in the 5600 block of South Emerald Avenue about 2:35 a.m. when three gunmen came out of a gangway and opened fire, police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said.

Both the man and woman took themselves to University of Chicago Medical Center, Gaines said.

The woman, 20, suffered a gunshot wound to the side and was later transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she is in serious condition, Gaines said.

The man, 38, was shot in both legs and remains in serious condition at University of Chicago, Gaines said.

The gunmen ran off after the shooting and no one is in custody.
