Man, Woman Safe After Falling Into Lake Michigan

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man and woman who apparently fell into Lake Michigan overnight are safe.

Fire officials say they received a call just before 3 a.m. of a person in the water near North Avenue beach.

When first responders arrived, they found a man who managed to get out of the water, but he said a woman who was with him might still be in the lake.

They searched for more than an hour, without success.

Police later learned that she was able to get out of the water and walked back to her Lake Shore Drive residence.

Officials said they either slipped or were knocked into the lake by high winds.
