Man Slain In South Holland Store Robbery, One Of Two Suspects In Custody

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police in south suburban South Holland were searching for a suspect wanted in the deadly armed robbery of a cell phone store.

Two gunmen entered the Boost Mobile store at 162nd and Ellis in South Holland around 2 p.m. Tuesday. Police said several employees and customers were in the store at the time of the holdup.

Police arrived on the scene a short time later, and found one male customer had been shot.

While some first responders stayed with the man, others searched for the shooters.

"Two offenders had came into the store and committed an armed robbery. Both offenders fled from the store, and as police arrived, observed one of the offenders, and a brief chase occurred. At that time, we subsequently apprehended the person," said South Holland Police Chief Greg Baker.

The victim was taken to Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, and was later pronounced dead. The victim's identity has not yet been released.

The other suspect remained at large on Wednesday. The South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force has been called in to assist in the investigation.
