Man charged after fight led to deadly shooting in Chicago's River North
CHICAGO (CBS) — A man has been charged with shooting another man during a fight near popular nightlife spots in the River North neighborhood.
Jeffery Campos, 20, was charged with one felony count of first-degree murder and one felony count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
Chicago police said the victim, a 24-year-old man, was in a fight with another person, later identified as Campos, around 3:40 a.m. Saturday, in the 0-100 block of West Hubbard Street, who then pulled out a gun and shot in his direction.
The victim was hit in the body and was taken to Northwestern Hospital, where he died.
People who work near where the shooting took place said the victim was a familiar face in the area. They believe he worked in the service industry and was on the block regularly.
The people said the shooting happened in front of Roc Bar.
Staff along the street said they were worried for their own safety and hoped to see more police and more security there for the Saturday night crowds.
