Man Shot Near Millennium Park After Argument Has Died: Family

(CBS) -- Family of the man shot along busy Michigan Avenue Saturday night says he died Sunday afternoon.

CBS 2's Charlie De Mar talks with the brother of Peter Fabbri, the 54-year-old victim.

Bruno Fabbri says his brother was leaving a wine tasting event in the Loop with his girlfriend and sister when a verbal fight with a stranger turned fatal. Police say the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m.

"He didn't deserve this," he says.

He says Peter was walking down Michigan Avenue with the women near Millennium Park when an argument between Peter and another man erupted. Gun shots quickly followed.

"They were arguing, and he pulled out a gun, and there was no more arguing because he shot my brother," Bruno Fabbri says.

Witness Marques Wilson told CBS 2 he heard the men arguing over politics.

"There was a couple ladies, that I guess were with the gentleman that was shot, and they were hysterical. They said some guy on a bike shot him in the head twice and that he rode off. There was a political discussion going on," he said.

The alleged shooter tried getting away on a bike, but Chicago police quickly caught up and detained him. Charges had not been filed as of late Sunday night.

Peter Fabbri was a father of two and the oldest of six siblings. He repaired homes with his brother Bruno.

"Everybody loses at this point," the surviving family member says.

Peter Fabbri, who was shot in the head, was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Family members say they took Peter off of life support Sunday afternoon.

They are now collecting funeral funds through a Go Fund Me account to say a proper goodbye.
