Corrections officer charged with murder in Niles nightclub shooting

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Cook County Sheriff's corrections officer was charged with murder after a shooting in north suburban Niles outside of a nightclub.

Officers were called to the Miraj nightclub on Milwaukee Avenue around 1 a.m. Sunday after a dispute in the parking lot.

A 22-year-old man was shot least once. He later died at a nearby hospital.

Police charged Alan Kettina, 25, of Salem Walk with first degree murder. The Cook County Sheriff's office confirmed Kettina was employed as a corrections officer at the time of the shooting.

"Corrections Officer Alan Kettina was hired in November 2021. He was de-deputized Sunday in connection with a criminal investigation being conducted by the Nile Police Department. The Sheriff's Office is cooperating in any way it can with the investigation and would refer all questions to the Niles Police Department," Sheriff's office spokesperson Shereen Mohammad said in an email.

Kettina is expected in bond court on Tuesday.
