Man Shot And Killed In West Englewood

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man was shot to death Thursday morning in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side.

Shaquille Alexander, 21, was found unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the head at 5:24 a.m. in the 5600 block of South Seeley, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Alexander, of the 2700 block of West 61st Street, was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:54 a.m., according to the medical examiner's office.

A police source said he was a convicted felon and a documented gang member.

His body could be seen lying in the middle of Seeley between 56th and 57th streets, covered in a blue sheet and surrounded by seven to eight shell casings.

A woman could be seen crying on the porch of a house within the yellow crime scene tape. "That's my baby!" she screamed repeatedly, stomping her feet as a couple of other women consoled her.

A man, who identified himself as the victim's father, stood in the street outside the tape next to a group of friends and family. A man in the group stood by him, wiping tears from his face. A woman screaming and crying fell to the pavement as another woman bent down and held her.

The victim's father declined to answer questions.

"My son's body is lying in the street," he said. "I got a lot on my mind."
