CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man was shot and seriously wounded early Tuesday in the Belmont Central neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

The 26-year-old man was in a garage with a friend about 12:30 a.m. in the 2600 block of North McVicker Avenue when someone walked up, fired shots at them and ran away, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.

He was shot in his upper-left chest and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition, Greer said.

The man's friend was not hurt in the shooting, police said.

No one is in custody as Area North detectives investigate.
