Man Sentenced To 27 Years For Sexual Assault During 2008 Home Invasion
(STMW) -- A man who sexually assaulted a South Shore woman during a 2008 home invasion was sentenced to 27 years in prison Friday.
Jose Ellis, 24, pleaded guilty to aggravated criminal sexual assault with a firearm in connection with the July 9, 2008 attack in the 7500 block of South Blackstone Avenue, according to a statement from the Cook County State's Attorney's office.
Judge Steven Goebel sentenced Ellis to 27 years in prison Friday, the statement said.
The night of the attack, a woman was returning home with her baby after working the evening shift at a downtown Chicago hotel when Ellis and a second suspect approached her at her front door, prosecutors said.
They took out a shotgun and stole the contents of her purse, then forced her into her home, prosecutors said.
Ellis took the woman into the kitchen and sexually assaulted her, prosecutors said. The other suspect ransacked the home before they ran away.
The crime went unsolved until January 2011, when a state police database matched Ellis' DNA with evidence collected from the victim. He was also identified in a photo array.
No one else has been charged in the home invasion.
