Police: River Forest Bank Robbery Suspect Caught By Patrol Officer 'Within Minutes'

RIVER FOREST, Ill. (STMW) -- A man suspected of robbing a bank in west suburban River Forest Saturday morning was arrested mere blocks away from the bank as he tried to make his escape, authorities said.

The man allegedly robbed the TCF Bank branch inside a Jewel-Osco store at 7525 N. Lake St. at 9:27 a.m., according to the FBI.

He did not show a weapon, and the incident was described as a "non-takeover" robbery, the FBI said.

The man received an unspecified amount of cash and ran away, only to be stopped by a River Forest police officer on patrol less than two blocks away "within minutes" of the robbery, River Forest Police Deputy Chief James O'Shea said.

He was positively identified by bank personnel and taken to the River Forest police station for questioning, O'Shea said.

FBI agents are at the station, and the investigation is ongoing, O'Shea said.
