Man Robbed Of Cash, Pants Near UIC Campus

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man was beaten and robbed of something out-of-the-ordinary Monday night near the University of Illinois at Chicago campus.

UIC police said, shortly after 10 p.m. Monday, the victim was attacked by four men near 12th and Morgan streets. The men, dressed in all black, beat the victim and stole his money and his pants.

The robbers then fled south on Morgan Street. Police said the victim, a 28-year-old man, was not connected with UIC.

Paramedics took the victim to a hospital to be treated for a laceration and swelling to his head and face.

UIC students said it's just another reminder about the importance of being vigilant.

"I think this could kind of happen anywhere in the city, so I think just to have good habits, and travel in groups, and not go out too late, I think that would be the best," freshman Nina Tang said.

Freshman Michaela Byrd said she tries to make sure she's aware of her surroundings, and walks in well-lit areas with other people.

"Other than that, there's not a lot that you can do," she said.

Area Central detectives were investigating.
