Man In Custody After Police Chase, Crash On Southwest Side

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man was taken into custody Tuesday night after he led police on a chase and crashed a stolen van into five parked vehicles and a CTA bus in the Brighton Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

Officers on patrol in the Deering District saw a 2003 Ford van disobey a stop sign about 10 p.m. near 47th and Wolcott, police said. When they attempted to curb the van, it sped away.

With police in pursuit, the van struck five parked vehicles and a CTA bus in the 4700 block of South Talman, police said. The bus driver, the only person injured, was taken to Holy Cross Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the van had been reported stolen.

The driver of the van, a 36-year-old man, was taken into custody, police said, Charges were pending early Wednesday.
