Man Held On $2M Bond For Palatine Punching Death
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man charged with murder for allegedly fatally punching a man nearly two weeks ago in Palatine will remain held on $2 million bond, a judge said Wednesday.
Michael Platt, of the 200 block of West Wilson Street in Palatine, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Ryan Flannigan, 26, according to Palatine police.
Platt was arrested Tuesday at his girlfriend's house in Palatine on a warrant carrying a $2 million bond, police said.
At a hearing Wednesday at the Rolling Meadows courthouse, Judge Jill C. Marisie ordered the $2 million bond to stand, and set a next court date of Aug. 14, Cook County State's Attorney's office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton said.
Flannigan, 26, was discovered lying unconscious and bleeding from his head in the 0-100 block of North Bothwell Street about 11:30 p.m. on July 18, according to a statement from Palatine police.
A man allegedly punched Flannigan once on the side of the head, causing him to fall and hit his head on the pavement, police said.
About 30 minutes later, police arrested Platt, 35, at a nearby bar. He was initially charged with aggravated battery and released after posting 10 percent of his $75,000 bond, police said.
Flannigan, of the 100 block of West Colfax Street, died at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge at 3:48 p.m. Monday, 10 days after the attack, authorities said. The warrant carrying the upgraded charge was issued following his death.
Police said Flannigan never regained consciousness after the "senseless, unprovoked attack." An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday.
"The tragic loss of Ryan Flannigan will forever weigh on the hearts of those who love him, and everyone who had the gift of knowing him," according to a statement from Flannigan's sister, Courtney Flannigan.
A wake will take place Sunday, Aug. 3 at Matz Funeral Home, 410 E. Rand Rd. in Mount Prospect.
