Man Found Dead In Vacant West Garfield Park Home

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man was found dead inside a vacant home in the West Garfield Park neighborhood late Wednesday, police said.

About 10:50 p.m., officers found the 37-year-old lying face-down in a pool of blood inside the home in the 4300 block of West Lexington Street, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:30 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. The man lived in the 5000 block of West Gladys, authorities said.

It wasn't immediately clear whether the man had been shot, police said. Area North detectives initially were conducting a homicide investigation, but as of 7 a.m. it was listed as a death investigation.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.

Police said that the man was a documented gang member.
