Man Found Dead After Aurora House Fire

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 73-year-old man was found dead after a house fire Tuesday morning in west suburban Aurora.

A neighbor saw smoke coming from a home in the 500 block of Claim Street about 7:30 a.m. and called 911, according to a statement from the Aurora Fire Department.

Firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the second floor of the home, where they discovered the 73-year-old dead, according to the statement. The home did not have working smoke detectors.

The fire was brought under control about 8 a.m. and no other injuries were reported.

The home was left uninhabitable, according to the department. An estimated total of $105,000 of damage was done to the home — about $75,000 to the structure and $30,000 to the contents.

The Kane County coroner's office did not immediately confirm the fatality.

The fire department's arson team is investigating the blaze.
