Man Dies After Fire In Glen Ellyn Apartment
(STMW) -- A west suburban man died Saturday morning after a fire broke out in his Glen Ellyn apartment Friday morning.
Firefighters responded to the blaze in a three-story building about 5:40 a.m. Friday in the 500 block of Duane Street, according to a statement from the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Department.
Abdullah Rantissi, 27, was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he was pronounced dead at 7:22 a.m. Saturday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Fire officials said the fire started in Rantissi's third-floor apartment. No one else was injured in the blaze, which was extinguished shortly after 6 a.m.
Several businesses on the first floor of the building were able to open later Friday, fire officials said. Firefighters covered several prom dresses at a tailor shop with tarps and prevented them from being damaged.
Crews from Addison, Carol Stream, Glenside, Bloomingdale, Lisle-Woodridge, Lombard, York Center, Warrenville and Wheaton all responded and assisted with the rescue and extinguishment efforts, fire officials said.
The cause of the blaze was not immediately known Saturday morning as the DuPage County Fire Investigation Task Force investigates.
