Man Commits Suicide After South Side Barricade Situation

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man committed suicide Monday night after barricading himself in a vehicle for at least an hour in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood on the South Side, police said.

About 8:25 p.m., officers responding to a call of a suspicious person in the 8600 block of South Throop Street found the 35-year-old man sitting alone inside a vehicle with a gun, police said.

The man barricaded himself inside the vehicle for at least an hour before he got out and shot himself in the chest, police said.

He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead, police said. The Cook County medical examiner's office could not immediately confirm the fatality.
