Man Charged With Trying To Run Down Cop In Lakeview
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Bond was set at $400,000 for a man facing several charges after he tried to strike a police officer with a vehicle early Tuesday on the North Side, prompting an officer to open fire, police said.
Giovanni Valle, 20, is charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated assault of a police officer with a weapon, fleeing/attempting to elude police, and possession of cannabis, all felonies, according to Chicago Police. He also faces five traffic citations.
Officers were called about a battery in the 3000 block of North Clybourn at 2:10 a.m., according to police.
The driver tried to run down an officer with a vehicle while driving away from the scene, police said. Police fired shots at the car, but nobody was struck.
Responding officers then stopped the vehicle, and took the driver and three passengers into custody, police said. A pellet gun was recovered from inside the vehicle.
Bond was set at $400,000 Wednesday, according to the Cook County sheriff's office. Valle, of the 1700 block of West Melrose Street, is next scheduled to appear court Jan. 20.
