Man Charged With Shooting 6, Including Orr Player, At Austin Party

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A Cook County judge set bond Tuesday at $2 million for a 22-year-old man charged with shooting six people — including a star basketball player at Orr Academy — early Sunday morning at an Austin house party, the Sun-Times is reporting.

At the time of the shootings, Patrick Calhoun was out on bond in a pending narcotics case, Cook County assistant state's attorney Erin Antonietti said during the bond hearing at the George Leighton Criminal Courts Building.

Calhoun, 22, is charged with aggravated battery in connection with the shootings, which occurred about 3:30 a.m. Sunday in the 4900 block of West Race, prosecutors said.

Tyquone Greer, 19, a senior and All-City forward, was shot in the calf. Greer had led Orr to a fourth-place finish in last season's Class 3A state tournament.

Prosecutors offered no possible motive in court, saying that Calhoun was at the party, left and then returned with a gun. He then allegedly aimed into the home's crowded basement and began firing. Calhoun allegedly returned with an unnamed accomplice and more shots were fired, Antonietti said. Prosecutors say they have two witnesses, one of whom knows Calhoun from the neighborhood.

"We were just out having a good time, partying and enjoying ourselves when the shots rang out," Greer said. "It doesn't matter who you are, what color you are, what grade you are in, we just want to feel safe."

Police have previously said two males were involved in an argument at the party. One left, returned with a handgun and opened fire into the home.

An attorney for Calhoun, who lives in the 1900 block of West Maypole Avenue, said in court that his client does airplane maintenance at O'Hare International Airport.
